[Food Map] Korean Foodie-Gyeongju, 'Hwangnidan-gil': Street Snacks
The most popular place in Gyeongju, South Korea is 'Hwanglidan-gil'.
It's a place that's so hip and trendy, yet has a unique Gyeongju vibe that makes you feel good just walking down the street.
The first thing that caught my eye as soon as I entered Hwangridan-gil was this stationery store.
If you have any memories of your school days in the 90s, it's a very welcoming place, and the moment you step inside, you feel like you've stepped back in time and are reminded of your childhood, when you were busy laughing and talking.
It's so cute to see all the snacks and toys that you thought were long gone.
Walking down 'Hwanglidan-gil', I saw an ice cream shop with people lined up.
I wondered what was so special about it, so I went in and found a very cute corn ice cream. It's called 'Oksusu', which is a cute name.
I didn't think it was anything special, but I ate it out of curiosity. It tasted like a regular soft-serve ice cream, but the faint corn flavor was very appealing.
And as I got to the bottom, there were quite a few corn kernels, so the flavor got stronger and stronger, so I felt that it was quite good than my first impression. I can imagine the flavor, but I think it was even more satisfying when combined with the sensation of eating each bite on the street.
Next up was the 'Cheomseongdae who drank Matcha' from 'Richoya', which is famous for its matcha ice cream.
It's a shaped ice cream that I couldn't resist trying, especially with this visual and the historical royal tomb in the background.
How does it taste? I thought it might be a nomal flavor, but the first bite changed my mind.
It was chewy, like eating gelato, but with a strong, sweet matcha flavor that made me realize that this was a popular store, not an advertisement.
Walking along the royal tomb and eating each bite of matcha ice cream was a delightful experience as it went so well with the green background.
Murals all around the narrow alley.
The phrase 'The alley you want to walk down' is very fitting.
It was so relaxing to walk through the cute alleyways, nibble on street snacks, and admire the eco-friendly historical sites.
The night view of Gyeongju, South Korea is glittering jewels, and it was so beautiful.
In the evening, we walked down the street and ate 'jjondgi'.
Normally, I wouldn't buy for 'jjondgi', but I was drawn to it because it looked cute like french fries.
But guess what? Perhaps the most surprising snack of all was this 'jjondgi'.
Not only were they chewy, but they were also quite spicy, which made them very tempting.
It was sweet with plenty of sugar, and the spicy flavor, like spicy Cheetos powder, was quite addictive.
'Cheomseongdae' at sunset after walking around 'Hwanglidan-gil'.
It's so beautiful and the surrounding flower gardens are quite large, so it's a photo zone no matter where you are.
